Design With Diana: PT. 1
I have had numerous clients express their frustration, trying to pull a look together for a room. “Something is not right” they would always say.
Once a color pallet is established, I like to start with larger pieces of furniture. This is the anchor of the room. Then the accent chairs, tables etc. Textures are important in the aesthetic of a room. Gone are the days of the matching furniture. Mixing wood of all kinds is acceptable now. Now you have the freedom to mix and match if you wish, making a more interesting and eclectic style you can freely play with.
Accessorizing a room is key in creating a warm and inviting look. The right accessories can create the look you are striving for, whether it be tabletops, textiles, florals, and artwork. Picking the right pieces can often be frustrating but it is essential in bringing a room together.
Have you ever tried decorating with hard elements, and found that something was just missing? I have a simple rule that I like to use… Two “hard” and one “soft” element. What do I mean by “hard and soft” elements? If you have a mantle and you decorate it with a candelabra and a stack of books, these are hard elements. You need to add a floral arrangement or a plant to offset the other. Next time you are decorating a space give this a try, it has helped me with many of my design projects. This rule applies to practically any hard surface… tables, consoles, bookcases etc.
